Space Gallery St Barth is delighted to announce an exhibition of paintings by artist Rémy de Haenen.

Rémy de Haenen is a french artist, born in Martinique, which he called home along with St Barth until he was 17 years old. Descendant of a family that arrived in the Islands centuries ago, his childhood was deeply marked and influenced by the cultural diversity, freedom, colors, sea, sky and creatures of the Islands.

Now, Rémy presents “Summer”, at their New York City Gallery from 18 May till 24 June 2023 where the artworks captures those long days at the beach or by the pool, basking in the sun and endless lazy afternoon picnics. Even a swim at golden hour.

The artist also invites the public to the Exhibition Vernissage where he will talk about his recent art, his style and his connection to St Barth. The Vernissage will take place on the first day of the exhibition on Thursday,18 May 2023.

THE WORKS

Color is indeed central to this series. Beach scenes and island life are depicted saturated in
block color giving the pieces a Wesselman-esque identity or note of Hockney sometimes appear.
De Haenen uses the centrality of the female body and the advertising aesthetics of Pop Art. That way, the artist express the sensuality of these scenes as relaxed snapshots. They are a gesture of love for his homeland and a longing for the persistence of the Caribbean identity.

“In my works I stick to the idea that color and painting form a language that can speak to the mind, the body and to the hidden magical mysteries of Caribbean souls. Since color is fundamental and it is everywhere when you set a foot in the islands. It has magic (sometimes elusive) and provokes the eye and body as if it were a material substance.”, says Rémy.

Hoewever, the exhibition is also comprised of several sculptures. In his signature style painted on a series of acrylic plates that give the subject matter volume, shape and bring them to life. They are beautiful little gems that celebrate color and nature coming into bloom as summer arrives.

Eberhard & Co. was present at Geneva Watch Week to present the novelties of the latest models released. The event took place at La Maison de L’Horlogerie, from March 27 to April 1, 2023.

THE NOVELTIES

During the Geneva Watch Week, we had the pleasure of welcoming a couple of journalists, who came to visit the exhibition and see the brand’s latest news.

SCAFOGRAF MCMLIX 300 – The contemporary version of SCAFOGRAF 300 was launched in 2016. In the same year received the Grand Prix D’Horlogerie de Genève award for the best sports watch of the year.

Traversetolo – From its very beginnings, Traversetolo was an immediate success, which endures to this day. It is one of the best-selling models of the house: animated by a hand-wound movement, which was created in the 1950s for pocket watches and perfected over time.

8 Jours Grande Taille – The 8 Jours was born from an intuition based on the technology used in the past in pocket watches. Equipped with hand-wound movements, they could keep working for several days without losing accuracy. The same classic lines were also maintained in its later, more generously encased version: the Grande Taille, with a diameter of 41 mm. The dials are inspired by tradition, with the power reserve displayed by a scale at 9 o’clock.

Time to Watches closed its doors on April 1st and welcomed 5’800 visitors. Representing an overall growth of 28% compared to 2022. During the five days, visitors discovered the latest collections of the 55 exhibiting brands. Met key actors of the industry, attended exciting talks and participated in various activities. Organized by Christian Wipfli, Time to Watches is a rich, diversified, and accessible event offering a creative, and cool space for independent brands. Inclusivity was key at this year’s edition with the event being open to the public throughout the five days.

“The foundations laid during the first event allowed us to attract more exhibitors and visitors, especially international ones. And following the positive feedback we received from them – this second edition confirms that Time to Watches is now an event that counts during the Geneva Watch Week!” – said Christian Wipfli, Director of Time to Watches.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony took place on March 28 from 6 pm. In the presence of Lada Umstätter, Director of the HEAD – Geneva, Jean-Daniel Pasche, President of the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry and Mrs. Fabienne Fischer, State Councillor, exhibiting brands, press and guests.

Time to Talk

A diverse and engaging series of discussions took place throughout the week. On several watchmaking-related topics, technological advancements, and the culture surrounding the craft. The 19 talks featured 60 speakers from various backgrounds and areas of expertise, providing a well-rounded perspective on the subject matter.

Watch&Match Event

In a festive atmosphere with live music and DJ sets on April 1st, 1’480 visitors were given the opportunity to meet the 31 participating brands and their novelties as well as directly buy their favorite timepieces.

Time to Watches Awards 2024 Announcement

In collaboration with their main partner, HEAD – Genève, Time to Watches is excited to announce the creation of the Time to Watches award that celebrates the upcoming innovators, designers in the future of watchmaking. The yearly prize will be awarded for the first time next year to a young HEAD — Genève graduate. The winner will have their watch showcased at Time to Watches 2024 and the celebration will be sponsored by an exhibiting brand.
